Hunting Birds - Halloween Raffle Entry 1

//Give it to me, give it to me!// Heathen screamed as the rabbit sprinted through Scherbenhaufens leg. The van gogh piebald looked afraid as the barbary nearly crushed into him. He already didn't want to go to this hunt anymore. His handler just grinned and gave him a short stroke over the head as she followed the rare mane to call her back. Right now they were on their way to pick up some other Tokotas for this hunting trip. One of the missing three was a Toki and the other two were dires. Scherbenhaufen hadn't seen any of these Tokotas or their kind before and this was another point to get nervous.
As they arrived the nunivack pack village everyone could easily make out this three without many informations. The two dires were huge! One of them was a serious looking guy - his name was Lord Schnee - while the other one was a golden female - called Royal Jelly. Her fangs scared the van gogh nearly to death, but Heathen sprinted forward to greet them botg and she was much curious about the curled tail of the big girl. Playing around with the gentle giant she nearly felt over the Toki. //Oh my, sorry short leg!// she said, while Lord Schnee snorted. He was such a serious boy! Paine - that's the name of the Toki - barked at the excited barbary, but than she turned around and took advantage. //This way boys and girls, today we'll catch some birds!// - //Birds?!// Heathen screamed. She had thought about Foxes and bunnies... Not so much excited about the new direction of this hunt, she suddenly stopped. Maive did the same and looked at her quite confused. The two dires were already next to the bloodmarked short leg and the handler was afraid that she could loose the others. With a loud whistle she stopped the whole group. Royal Jelly nearly bumped into Lord Schnee and even if he was more the kind of guy who kept distance, he could barely resist her shy smile as she appologized.

Now that the barbary was moving again, Maive and Paine were leading the group to the close lake. Many of the Birds came here to take a long bath or to lay eggs. Even if Heathen doesn't like to hunt Birds, she loved their eggs! Sneaking around the nest and picking one or two like a fox was quite funny! Lord Schnee was happy about this choice. He was a good hunter and it was nice to chase something new. Usual he fighted against bears or seals and today he would show his agile body control. Royal Jelly seem to be similar. She watched the still far birds interested. Maive had some spy glasses to get more detailed Information, but the curled dire girl was already waving her tail in excitement. She could hear them and as soon as the wind changed she could also smell them. Scherbenhaufen had moved aside to hide behind the handler. He was still shy and he would love to go home, but Paine took this behavior as a reason to motivate all of them even more! She thought she was quite good in such stuff, but some of her friends called this too self-esteem and annoying.

After everyone had watched the prey and the environment, the group separated into two smaller ones. The human and the dires were one and the remaining three were group number two. It should be easy enough for Paine to get close to the targets, thanks to her size. And therefore it would be much harder for the two dires. In addition Royal Jelly could be quite clumsy... Lord Schnee couldn't believe his ears as she said this. Both of them blushed and were pushed forward by Maive, who was indeed the loudest creature of this group!
At the other side was it really hard for Heathen to shut up. She sprinted through the bushes and was hard to calm down. The van gogh otherwise was like a shadow. Scherbenhaufen never want to be noticed, so he could sneek around quite easy.

The two groups arrived the lake from different positions. Paine, Scherbenhaufen and Heathens were quite frontal, while Royal Jelly, Lord Schnee and Maive were slightly at the back of the birds. The curly tailed dire laid down next ashore to wait for her sign, while Lord Schnee slowly moved into the water. They would wait for the others to get ready as well, while Maive get on her knees next to the curl tailed dire female.
Paine and Heathen were already on their places too, but all of them need to wait for Scherbenhaufen, who was still ensuring his perfect hide. This van gogh could be so slow, the bloodmarked Toki thought with a long yawning. Anyway if he needed this time, he should get it. The birds wouldn't fly away just because of his need for five  more minutes.

Lord Schnee was now close to a duck. The colorful male was swimming around and tried to impress some of the females. How funny that you can identify show offs in every kind! The tundra dire grinned and moved aside. He didn't want to scare them yet.
The others were also looking for their perfect target. Nearly all birds here were ducks, but with a long focus you could also find some rarer birds! Royal Jelly got a good eye for such animals and she prepared her big body for a fast run. Her target was in a good distance and she need to overcome an obstacle to reach it. Anyway she would sure manage this! Well... at least she hoped so. Hopefully she didn't fell over the rotten tree! She thought as she waited for the right moment to start.
Scherbenhaufen, as usual, took a duck quite close to his hide out. Better he just tried an easy one! He didn't want to faile... In addition Heathen and Paine had an argumentation about their choose. Both were interested in the same, so they decided to try a competition and the loser of the race would need to take out another bird!

Maive got a hard moment as she tried to hide her yawning. She was waiting for the Tokota group to attack. Prepared with a camera she want to shoot some good pictures, but none of the bear dogs were moving yet! That was a quite frustrating time for the handler and she nearly closer her eyes as the group finaly started to move!  
Paine gave the first impulse, thanks to this she got advantage, but the barbary came closer quite easy thanks to her long legs. Lord Schnee could see how his target spread it's wings and with a hard jump out if the water he caught it before it started! Royal Jelly slightly hit the tree as she jumped over it (Of' course Maive got a picture from the two nearly synchronic jumping dires!) and she reached her target in the last second.
Nerver than less Scherbenhaufen had caught his aimed target as first Tokota and he also got luck to catch a second one.
The hardest fight got Heathen and Paine against each other. They reached the target at the same time and bumped together. Like this the first choice escaped and both had to try their number two.
Anyway in the end they also managed this fight and got a nice prey to show!
